This is so simple and makes heaps – make up mix,  divide into bowls,  colour each one, put each into zip lock bags,  cut off corner – WRITING ICING!

WRITING ICING

Ingredients

  • 2 egg whites
  • ¼ tsp cream of tartar
  • 3 cups icing sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Few teaspoons water

Method

  1. Mix the egg whites, cream of tartar, icing sugar together in the mixer, add the vanilla and beat for 2 minutes, add a few teaspoons of water and continue to beat on high for 5 minutes.
  2. Add a couple more teaspoons of water.
  3. Split mix into a number of bowls, add a few drops of food colouring to each bowl, stir well and put each mix into a zip lock bag.

To use as writing icing, snip the corner off the bag and squeeze the bag to pipe the icing – see the gingerbread men recipe. We recently had great success at a party with a pile of gingerbread men, this icing and a pile of lollies. Kids were quiet for ages decorating the gingerbread men and finding someone to eat them before making another one.
